Untitled Document Sessional Instructor

SIIT is seeking a qualified instructor to teach the PADM (Band Administration) class for Trimester Three in the Business Administration program located in Regina, SK. The program will run from March 8, 2010 to May 28, 2010.

Qualifications include a Bachelor Degree and relevant experience.

Experience teaching adults, preferably First Nations adults and knowledge of First Nations culture would be an asset.

Dates: 2009-2010 Academic Year
Location: Regina, SK.
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

CAREER ADVISORS
Competition number: SSA – 0013

The object of the SITAG Career Advisors Network (SCAN) is to provide clients in 55 First Nations communities with access to career development services on a predictable, timetabled and consistent basis. Working in two-person teams, the SCAN Career Advisor will travel to communities to advise clients on practical strategies to achieve personal career outcomes. The Career Advisor and client will collaborate to build a formal plan using the SITAG Career Development Model – PATH.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Work collaboratively with community interests to establish a client base and a suitable place to meet with clients.
  • Establish open lines of communication with clients to create a positive environment for joint career planning.
  • Review recent labour market status of clients and work with clients to detail a practical strategy to reach their personal career destination.
  • Support clients to take immediate steps to obtain employability skills and career credentials.
  • Document client data in tracking system.
Skills/Knowledge/Experience:
  • Experience in working with First Nations clients.
  • A combination of life experience, work experience and education i.e. Certificate in Aboriginal Employment Development
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to use computers and electronic communication equipment.
  • Ability to travel and be in the field on a weekly basis
  • Possess valid driver’s license
Term: February 2010 – March 31, 2011 with possible renewal
Location: Separate teams will be based in regions of Fort Qu’Appelle, Broadview, Yorkton, Prince Albert and North Battleford, SK.

EMPLOYER OUTREACH OFFICERS
Competition number: SSA – 0014

The Employer Outreach Officers will work within the SITAG Career Advisors Network (SCAN) which provides clients in First Nations communities with support to develop personal employment strategies. The Employer Outreach Officers (EOO) will engage employers in a specific region in order to establish long-term working relationships to match First Nations job seekers with emerging employment opportunities.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Contact potential employers in a specific region to profile the type of jobs that may be available, how they are typically filled, how frequently hiring takes place and whether they are open to a referral relationship.
  • Assess each employer and recommend the appropriate type of interaction over a multi-year period.
  • Create electronic profiles for access by the SITAG network of agencies.
  • Collaborate with other agencies to identify possible relationships, to recommend skills partnerships and to promote a solid understanding of the work being undertaken.
  • Administrative reporting including work plans, activity reports and other duties as required.
Skills/Knowledge/Experience:
  • Formal education in Marketing, Community Development or Employment Development is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of First Nations history, geography and culture
  • Influencing and negotiating skills
  • Highly organised, energetic and optimistic
  • Effective planning and time management skills
  • Effective computer skills for report writing, data management and communication
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle

SCAN FIELD SUPERVISOR
Competition number: SSA – 0016

The SITAG Career Advisors Network (SCAN) is a new initiative providing clients in First Nations communities with access to career development services on a predictable, timetabled and consistent basis. The SCAN Field Supervisor will oversee 5 two-person teams of Career Advisors who work directly with clients at the First Nations community. The Field Supervisor will ensure that services are provided in a responsive, planned and consistent manner. The position requires collaboration with Employer Outreach Officers and other agencies in the SITAG network.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Supervise and support Career Advisors in accordance with personnel policies and program goals and objectives
  • Work collaboratively with Career Advisors to develop effective work plans for SCAN services to be provided in the communities.
  • Ensure that services offered reflect the SITAG Career Development Model – PATH
  • In conjunction with Director, monitor the delivery and quality of the SCAN project as described within the work plans
  • Monitoring of Career Advisors performance and evaluation
  • Administrative functions and reporting as required
Skills/Knowledge/Experience:
  • Two years post secondary, with post-school supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of First Nations geography, history and culture and knowledge of relevant factors currently influencing First Nations communities and individuals
  • Excellent communications and writing skills
  • Effective computer skills for report writing and data reporting
  • Highly organised, energetic and optimistic
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle
  • Willingness to work irregular hours if required

SCAN Administrative Assistant
Competition number: SSA – 0015

The objective of the SITAG Career Advisors Network (SCAN) is to provide clients in 55 First Nations communities with access to career development information and services on a specific basis. Reporting to the SCAN Director, the Administrative Assistant will provide intensive administration support to the SCAN program. The Administrative Assistant will work with a team to implement and deliver the SCAN project.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Oversee all aspects of general office coordination for SCAN
  • Perform general clerical duties to include typing, filing, faxing, copying, mail distribution
  • Maintain record keeping documents relevant to staff, offices, suppliers and any program related contracts, i.e. staff, lease vehicles and expenditures
  • Compile, transcribe and distribute minutes from meetings as required
  • Prepare correspondence and agendas as directed
  • Respond to requests from supervisor and the public in a timely manner
  • Conduct basic research, compile data for reports
  • Other clerical/office duties as required
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
  • Knowledge of general office procedures
  • Ability to operate office equipment including computer, fax, copier
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Effective analytical and problem solving skills
  • Work within a team or alone
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality
