ATTENDANCE POLICY

The attendance policy applies to all students and apprentices including class time, practicum or work placements.

  • Student attendance is specified in each course outline.
  • Attendance is recorded for each class and for practicum or work placements.
  • 90% attendance is expected in all programs and courses.
  • Punctuality is expected in all SIIT programs.
  • Failure to adhere to the attendance policy will result in disciplinary action.

Absenteeism
Students are required to report absences to the campus or program site before 9:00 a.m. Failure to report absence for a period exceeding three (3) days may result in discontinuation from the program.

Both excused and unexcused absences will be recorded as absent on the student’s record. 

Compassionate Leave
Death in Immediate Family

  • Three (3) days are allowed for a death in the immediate family (parents, spouse, children, brothers, sisters, grandparents, and grandchildren). The Campus Director or Site Coordinator and Program Dean must approve any additional days above the three (3) days allotted.

Death Other Than Immediate Family

  • One day may be allowed to attend a funeral of a person other than the student’s immediate family.

Medical Leave

  • An extended absence period of ten (10) consecutive days per semester due to illness will require a Medical Withdrawal from the program. The student must provide documentation to verify a Medical Withdrawal. Documentation must be submitted on official clinic letterhead endorsed by the doctor in charge.

Court Appearances
Scheduled Court Appearance

  • Report appearance to the Campus Director or Site Coordinator. Court appearances are recorded at the discretion of the Campus Director Site Coordinator.

Subpoena

  • Report appearance to the Campus Director or Site Coordinator. Subpoenaed appearances are recorded as an excused absence.

Jury Duty

  • Report appearance to the Campus Director or Site Coordinator. A student may be excused from jury duty while attending school by providing documentation.
